Oh, it's so eerie!
Oh boy! How did something horrible like that happen?
- What happened?
I guess you haven't heard of the story yet.
There is a frozen corpse on one of the walls in the Ice Cave discovered in the Ice Mountain over there, and the notes written by the dead person while he was alive are known to the public one after another. This is making the people here very nervous.
And the thing is that one of the notes found with the corpse is actually a love letter to a woman. They say it's closely related to the myth of the cave.
- The myth of the cave?
An old man lives alone in a remote place not too far from this Colony. He's so old that he's seen and heard of everything that happened in this place. No one knows exactly how old he is. Hahaha!
Anyway, the old man said something about the Ice Cave because people are so excited about the cave.
According to the old man, the Ice Cave wasn't formed naturally.
- Are you saying that it's an artificial cave?
That's right. They say a very wealthy person hired people to dig the cave so he can lock up his daughter there.
His daughter loved a man, but the wealthy man didn't like him. Blinded by love, she tried to elope with the man and abandon her family but then got caught.
The wealthy man got so angry that he sold the man to a remote island across the ocean as a slave, and locked up his own daughter in the cave.
Consumed by grudge and anger against her father, she ended up killing herself in the cave.
- It's horrible.
Well, love opposed by family can be much more powerful...
Anyway, people started dying near the cave without a reason, and people began to think it's because the dead woman put a curse on them. Naturally, people stopped going there altogether.
But according to the notes left by the dead person, he seemed to have seen the earth-bound spirit. But the strange thing is that the descriptions of the woman mentioned in some of the notes he wrote while thinking about her match those of the spirit that people are talking about.
- Do you mean that the dead person loved the earth-bound spirit?
The old man was certain of it.
No one knows what happened between the dead body and the earth-bound spirit, but if he really died after being cursed by the spirit, there is no way he could look so peaceful as if he's asleep. And no matter how cold it was outside the cave, naturally he should have come out of there and get back to his town since its human nature. But instead, he decided to stay in the cave.
Since it's true that some things that we humans simply can't understand do happen in this world, I don't think you can just ignore the old man.
