Skill rank goes from Novice to Transcender. Each time the character gathers the listed skill EXP it gains 1 skill point and 1 rank point; with the listed rank points it moves to the next rank. Reaching each rank gives bonus stat points on top of the 5 per level: at Transcender the total bonus is 384 points. It is not the same as class rank, which goes up through quests.
